Pressure Tank helps to provide pressurized water to your house
Domestic water system or booster system comprises of booster pump, pressure tank, pressure switch and pressure gauge.
The booster pump will draw water from water tank to pressurize the water in the house.
Pressure tank, also known as pressure vessel, creates water pressure in the domestic water system by using compressed air in the pressure tank. The water is pushed out of the pressure tank to your home when a valve is opened or someone uses water in the house. When the water pressure in the tank drops below the preset cut-in pressure, a pressure switch is activated turning on the pump. The pump will pump water into the pressure tank till the upper preset cut-out pressure is reached. The combination of the pump, pressure tank and pressure switch ensures sufficient water pressure through your home.
The pressure tank also acts as a water reservoir which allows water to be supplied from tank without always turning on the pump. The water pressure in the tank will cycle between the lower pressure point (start pressure / cut-in pressure) and the upper pressure point (stop pressure / cut-out pressure). Both the preset pressure points are set using pressure switch.
Common setting:
1] Start pressure/cut-in pressure: 20 PSI Stop pressure/cut-out pressure: 40 PSI
2] Start pressure/cut-in pressure: 30 PSI Stop pressure/cut-out pressure: 50 PSI
3] Start pressure/cut-in pressure: 40 PSI Stop pressure/cut-out pressure: 60 PSI
For 1] the booster system will ensure that the water supply is constantly at between 20 PSI to 40 PSI.
